Things to Do in Purcellville, VA with Babies, Toddlers & Young Kids

While you’re in town for a Walk & Talk, you may as well make the most of the day and check out some of the other gems around Purcellville. Playgrounds, cafés, markets, farm stands — this area has so many beautiful small businesses and community spots worth visiting.

Hamilton Mercantile

This place is such a cute and fun stop. They’ve got a little coffee shop in the back with amazing seasonal drinks — the kind of place where quality coffee meets reishi mushrooms, turmeric, and cacao, but somehow still feels super chill and approachable.

You can also shop for produce, wine, supplements, homeopathic products, homemade goods, and high-quality treats. Some of my favorite things to grab here are candles, tea, and their golden milk latte. And they’ve got kid carts - which, who doesn’t love that?

Dough Baby!

Sourdough-inspired pizza… and it’s GOOD. They also have desserts, ice cream, and sandwiches for lunch. Dough Baby! is run in partnership by a trio of local women, including acclaimed baker Tara Jensen.

It’s right next to the playground, so it’s an easy two-for-one outing — play before, after, or while you wait for your food.

Abernathy & Spencer

A greenhouse and garden center with plants, shrubs, trees, florals, and all kinds of greenery. This place feels like a whimsical fairytale land for both kids and adults. The kind of spot you can wander through for way longer than you planned and be perfectly happy about it. And you can grab a coffee a their little cafe!

Doppio Bunny

A classic little coffee shop right in town with small meals and snacks available.

Loudoun Valley Community Center Playground

A fenced-in playground that’s especially great for toddlers and pre-walking littles.

Hamilton Community Park

Bigger than the LVCC playground, the Hamilton playground is a community staple. I spent so many hot summer days there as a kid back when it was the old wooden castle playground. It’s been renovated several times since then, but it’s still such a great spot.

There’s a shaded Tonka truck digger area and multiple play spaces for different ages, so it’s easy to keep kids of multiple ages entertained.

Maggie’s Corner Café

Okay, so as of writing this, it’s not open yet. But if it’s anything like South Street Under, it’s gonna be good. Expect soups and sandwiches with the quality of Mag’s but with the cafe price point. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

Potomac Vegetable Farm & Fireside Farm

Head north up 287 and you’ll find roadside farm markets with truly farm-fresh greens and veggies. One of the best parts of this area is how easy it is to grab local produce straight from the source.

Mom’s Apple Pie at Hill High

Right off Route 7 is one of the Mom’s Apple Pie locations — Hill High! Beyond their infamous pies, cookies, and treats, they also have sandwiches, chips, and drinks at really reasonable prices. A perfect stop if you want a casual lunch or snack.

Round Hill Farm to Trail Co.

Okay, admittedly I’m less familiar with this one, but it absolutely looked like it deserved a spot on this list because the vibe of this place is basically everything I love. Sandwiches, grab-and-go items, and outdoorsy energy.

And of course, it’s worth mentioning that the Appalachian Trail runs right through Bluemont and Round Hill. If you ever want trailhead suggestions, LMK.

If you’ve been looking for more fresh air and conversation with easy ways to get out of the house with your kids, come join a Walk & Talk and maybe check out some of the other suggestions from this list. It’s a low-pressure way to meet other local parents, move your body a little, and build community in this season of life. Whether you come every week or just whenever you can, I’d love to see you there!
